和楽器にふれる Appreciating the Old Musical Instruments of Japan.

小鼓・太鼓などの打楽器、三味線・箏・琵琶・胡弓などの弦楽器、篠笛・能管などの管楽器。日本古来の伝統芸能と共に生きてきた和楽器が創り出す音に耳を傾け、自らも音出す「体験」、楽器を正しく奏でることが出来るようになるための「お稽古」、和楽器がつくる音楽を味わってもらう「デモンストレーション」の、三つのプログラムを用意しました。

Japan’s traditional musical instruments include, a kind of Japanese percussion instrument, such as a small dram and a big dram, string instruments like Shamisen, Koto, Biwa, Kokyu, and wind instruments called Shinobue, and Noukan. These old instruments have been associated with the traditional performing arts of Japan for many centuries. Listening to sounds created by such instruments, is a rare pleasure, and playing them is a fun pastime. We offer three programs; Experiment for trials of playing these instruments, Practice for proper music play, and Demonstration for an introduction to the appreciation of the traditional old instruments of Japan.

三味線は、16世紀にその原型が琉球からもたらされて以来、日本国内で固有の進化を遂げた、我が国独自の楽器です。降る雪、花の風情、風の音、虫の声などを、四季の変化に恵まれた国土の中で、先人達はこの楽器の音色に思いを託してきました。
弦楽器であると共に打楽器の要素も持つこの楽器の音色に、日本人の感性やアイデンティティーを見つめて頂きたいと存じます。洋楽の音階を用い、解かり易く、短時間でお馴染みのメロディーを奏でる事が出来ます。

“Shamisen”
The “Shamisen” is a string instrument brought from Ryukyu Islands in the 16th century, has been evolved in the Japan’s own way. Snow falling, flowers blooming, sound of breeze and insects. The Japan’s culture is fostered by changing of four seasons, and this is reflected in sound of the old music instruments.
“Shamisen” is a string instrument, but is played as percussion as well. It’s sound is characteristic in expressing feeling and identity of the Japanese. We guide you, so that you can play some familiar Japanese tunes with it easily and instantly, by employing the western music scale.

小鼓は「能にして能にあらず」といわれる芸能「三番叟」に使われる、古代からある楽器です。ひな人形の中の五人囃子、太鼓・大鼓・小鼓・笛・謡は能楽の音楽編成と同じです。そこに三味線が加わり歌舞伎の音楽となり、長唄、現代邦楽ができました。小鼓は、それらの日本音楽と共に歩みながらポンという古代からの響きを残しています。「さくら」のメロディにあわせてニッポンの音を感じてみませんか。他の打楽器や笛などメロディ楽器と合奏も楽しみましょう。

“Kotsuzumi”, one of the Japanese percussion instruments, has existed from the ancient era.
It literary means “a small dram”, and makes a sound like “pong”, the echo of which reminds sound of the ancient. Kotsuzumi is used in various forms of the traditional performing arts, and the contemporary music as well. In our workshop, we play “Sakura” song, featuring Kotsuzumi, and play in ensemble with other instruments.

横笛には主に次の３種類があります。共通していることは竹で作られ、歌口と７つの指孔を持っていることです。龍笛は雅楽で使われ、能管は能楽の中で独特の音階を奏でます。篠笛は歌舞伎囃子で使われ唄の旋律を奏でます。篠笛で皆さんがよく知っている日本の唄を吹いてみましょう。

“Yokobue”, Japanese Flute, has three different kinds; “Ryouteki”, or Dragon Flute, “Noh Kan”, a flute exclusively for Noh music, and “Shinobue”, a flute played in Kabuki. All these three kinds of flutes are made of bamboo and have seven finger holes and mouth-piece with no reed. Let’s play some popular Japanese old songs with “Shinobue”.

箏は十三本の糸をそれぞれ柱(じ)が支え、その位置で音程を調節します。それに対し柱が無く弦を押さえるものは「琴(きん)」と呼び区別しています。古典の音階も現代曲の音階もとれるのでどんな曲も弾くことができます。演奏する際に右手につけるツメの形は山田流・生田流という流派により異なります。

“Shou”, is a string instruments with thirteen strings, each of which is held with a adjustable stud to give a fixed key of a musical scale. Making a tune in this way is different from “Kin”, a similar string instrument at the first sight, but with no studs. You can play any music, both traditional and contemporary.
